Only Good Things Guide

The list we keep sending friends and family when they ask where to eat, city by city.

What it’s all about

My husband and I are forever getting asked where to eat, where to stay, and where to go – especially in Vienna, but also everywhere else we’ve been. Rather than keep a note we’d have to dig up, or fire off emails and WhatsApps that inevitably gather dust (we’ve all done it: asking for recommendations and then never actually checking them), we decided to build something more people could use.

What it took

We built a static site to collect everything in one place. So far that’s 70 recommendations on where to eat & drink across 14 cities. We’re also posting to our Instagram account, though it’ll take a while for the full list to land here.

It’s built much like this site, but naturally needs a bit more upkeep. (And with two product managers in charge, a bit more design debate and compromise.)

Where it’s going

Apart from the obviousAdding new stuff as we find it.Duh., in future, we’d also like to include:

  • Curated lists so it’s easier to find exactly what you’re looking for
  • Recommendations on where to stay and where to shop
  • A shared Google map for all the Good Things, so you can really access the list on the go

The Only Good Things logo – "only good things" set in a bold stacked stencil typeface with a magenta arrow pointing right, on white.
The Guide's landing page – the heading "show me the good things in …" above an open "pick a city" menu listing cities such as Vienna (39 good things), Linz and Hong Kong.
A city page for Vienna – category filter chips (bar, cafe, restaurant, street-food and more) above a list of places, with "Asia Pavillon" expanded to show a note and a pull-quote.
